Remote CEUs during COVID19 UPDATE

The following has been verified for the Landscape Architecture profession by Rob Lopez at NYS Education Department (NYSED and referred to below as the “Department”):

Those who have CE in New York in the professions got together on the issue and we are permitting all self-study for those renewing their registration March 1-June 1, 2020. See the website below for specifics:

Continuing Education:

Some regulations restrict licensees to a certain percentage of self-study for continuing education requirements. In response to the evolving situation with the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), and for those licensees whose registrations are due to renew March 1-June 1, 2020, the Department will grant an adjustment to all licensees to complete up to 100% of the continuing education as self-study, so long as it is taken from a Department-approved provider and is in an acceptable subject area for the specific profession. SED is working closely with other New York State agencies and the Governor’s Office to tackle issues relating to COVID-19. Please continue to monitor the Department’s website for updated guidance.

This was due to the coronavirus outbreak and subsequent cancellations of many recent CEU events where many LAs lost the opportunity to pursue and obtain credits.  Currently NYS allows up to half or 18 credits in a three-year cycle to come from approved Self Study (such as online courses). This decision allows this to be extended as noted above.  For LAs needing credits in NYS, one option is to check with LACES for NYS approved self study providers (gibneyce.com and others) which offer acceptable courses to NYSED.
