About the Project:

As a 120-acre nature preserve including ten acres of pleasure gardens, the Southern Highlands Reserve is a public botanical garden that demonstrates ecologically sustainable land preservation and landscape design for the Blue Ridge Mountain region of Western North Carolina. The landscape architect prepared a master plan and garden design scheme using a palette of native plants and other locally sourced materials. The work also included developing the set of ecological design principles used in the garden’s ongoing management, as well as in the Reserve’s educational programming.
