The Bernard and Anne Spitzer School of Architecture – Associate Professor/Full Professor of Landscape Architecture (tenure-track or tenured)

The Bernard and Anne Spitzer School of Architecture (SSA) invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track or tenured position in landscape architecture at the rank of associate professor or full professor.

The successful candidate will be a dynamic academic leader in the field of landscape architecture and will serve in a multi-year appointment as SSA’s Program Director of the Master of Landscape Architecture degree, a three-year professional program that is LAAB accredited. Teaching responsibilities include design studios, lecture courses, and advanced electives in landscape architecture.

In a multi-year appointment, the Program Director reports to the SSA’s Dean and works closely with the Director of Graduate Affairs and other staff to oversee recruitment and admissions, program accreditation, ongoing assessment, student success, budgeting, scholarships, fundraising, and other responsibilities. In consultation with the Chair of the Architecture Department, the Program Director administers program curriculum in accordance with shared governance, as well as full-time and adjunct faculty staffing in the MLA Program in accordance with union regulations.

A professional degree in landscape architecture (MLA) from a LAAB-accredited program is required; At the time of appointment, the candidate must already have a professional license to practice landscape architecture or architecture, or a doctoral degree.

The successful candidate should have a minimum of one year of experience working in an administrative capacity (e.g. as a program director or coordinator, chair, assistant chair, provost, etc.) at an institution of higher education.

The candidate must have experience teaching undergraduate and/or graduate design studios, lecture courses, and seminars in landscape architecture, as well as an ambitious research agenda demonstrating disciplinary standards at the rank of associate or full professor. A deep commitment to city life and the fundamental principles of a public institution of higher education with a highly diverse student body is expected. Associate Professor:    $67,784 to $117,805

Professor:             $83,878 to $132,987

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Health Plan Coverage for Employees Hired on or after October 1, 2022 City of New York employees and employees of Participating Employers and their eligible dependents hired on or after October 1, 2022 will only be eligible to enroll in the EmblemHealth HIP HMO Preferred Plan and must remain in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan for the first year (365 days) of employment.

After 365 days of employment, the employee will have the option of either remaining in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan or selecting a different health plan within 30 days before the end of the 365th day period.

If a new health plan is selected, the new plan will be effective on the 366th day.

Only after the 365th day can the employee participate in any Annual Fall Transfer Period. An employee who needs to request an exemption from the required enrollment in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan can do so by submitting a HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form to EmblemHealth. An employee, or eligible dependent, must meet certain criteria and the request must be approved by EmblemHealth before the exemption is granted. The HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form and HIP service area are available on the EmblemHealth website.
