If a viable eligible list does not exist, a provisional appointment may be made in accordance with Civil Service Law. Candidates who accept a provisional appointment must take the next competitive examination and be reachable on the resultant eligible list in order to be considered for permanent appointment to the position.
The minimum requirements for taking the Junior Landscape Architect examination are:
Either 1. a bachelor’s or higher-level degree in landscape architecture,
Or 2. a Landscape Architect’s License from any state or political subdivision of the United States.
Junior Landscape Architects who have successfully completed one year of service and have passed Sections 1 and 2 of the Landscape Architect Registration examination (LARE) will be advanced to Landscape Architect, Grade 20 (beginning salary). Failure to obtain a passing result on both Section 1 & 2 of the LARE within the first year of service will result in removal from your position.
Work may include one or more of the following: Provide Landscape Architecture design and support for capital program and special projects; Provide technical assistance and advice to Regional staff on environmental issues and regulations; Coordinate environmental analysis; permit applications, interactions with numerous public and private entities and consultants. Assist with Historic and Cultural analysis and Visual Assessment reports. Prepare presentations and visualizations for various projects along with bicycle and pedestrian circulation and compliance with current ADA standards. Prepare project estimates and proposals to secure project funding. Perform wetland delineations and field inspections during construction. Review project plans, specifications, documents and correspondence. Take part in management of invasive species and conservation efforts for pollinators and Monarch butterflies.
Prepare renderings, visualizations, map analyses, technical media and presentation materials for decision making, design development and delivery, and for use in training, public meetings, workshops, and hearings utilizing current software tools.
Successful candidates will be expected to have good written and verbal communication skills. It should be noted that the developing zonal responsibilities for this group to support Regions 8, 10 and 11 may result in some travel to provide appropriate services to all.
Junior Landscape Architects who have successfully completed one year of service and have passed Section 1 and 2 of the Landscape Architect Registration Examination will be advanced to Landscape Architect, Grade 20.
Responsibilities may include serving a role within the Incident Command System to support the department’s response to regional and statewide emergency situations.
