I-Park – 2023 Artists-in-Residence Program

Posted: Tuesday, December 27, 2022

I-Park is soliciting applications from Landscape and Garden Designers for its fully funded General Residency Program. These onsite, multidisciplinary residencies are open to artists and designers working in the visual arts, creative writing, music composition/sound art, moving image/new media, architecture and landscape/garden/ecological design. The residency season runs from May 4 – December 4, 2023. All sessions are 4-weeks in duration.

This residency is suitable for commercial landscape, garden and ecological designers as well as academics and writers working in these fields. To those in related theoretical fields, such as unsolicited, aquatic and extraterrestrial garden design, you are also encouraged to apply. You are welcome to experiment with materials on the grounds and in our shared workshop.

Located within an expansive nature preserve in rural East Haddam, Connecticut (U.S.), I-Park provides residents with a quiet, retreat-type setting, private living quarters in a renovated 1840s farmhouse, a private studio, meals program, fully equipped workshop and modest library – as well as creative access to the grounds which include miles of art/nature trails. 2023 will feature a special, though totally optional, opportunity for artists from all supported disciplines to create site-responsive artworks during their residency. Residencies are self-directed and non-judgmental. You decide what you’re working on and when.

Details and application forms are available at i-park.org. Applications are due January 9, 2023 and carry a $35 fee to help defray the cost of the selection panels. This year, I-Park will also be offering $500 travel grants to four non-North American artists.
