Hazen and Sawyer – Assistant Landscape Designer

Hazen and Sawyer seeks to fill an immediate need for an Assistant Landscape Designer in their NYC office. The ideal candidate will enjoy working across disciplines for collaboration on small- and large-scale public infrastructure and climate resiliency projects and have a strong interest in ecological restoration, wetland design, green infrastructure, invasive vegetation control, and arboriculture.
Applicants should possess strong technical, graphic, design, and written abilities and plan to work on in all phases of landscape and site development including: field surveys and site reconnaissance, conceptual design, hand and computer graphics, project management, planting plans, construction documentation, shop drawing review, and construction management. This position will work alongside the entire staff of Hazen’s engineers, scientists, architects, planners, and permitting specialists. Those with a desire to help grow Hazen’s capabilities in this area are preferred.
Candidates who also possess experience or background conducting natural resource surveys and/or assessments (desktop and field) will be given greater priority. Strong writing skills, sharp attention to detail, big picture thinking, and the ability to review/prepare technical reports and repackage them for inclusion in public documents is essential. The successful candidate will have outstanding verbal and written communication skills that enable them to effectively interact with clients and senior staff on a range of issues.
Minimum Requirements:

- Accredited Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture

- 2 years post graduate professional experience under direct supervision of landscape architect and pursuing licensure

- 1-2 years professional experience drafting in AutoCAD or Civil 3D

- ISA Certified Arborist or interest in becoming certified

- Driver’s license and ability to drive to and through the city and tri-state area

- Strong design and graphic skills, both digital and hand drawn

- Local tree, shrub and groundcover identification

- Planting selection and/or design

- Driver’s license and ability to drive to and through the city and tri-state area
Preferred Qualifications:

- 2 years New York State professional experience

- Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)

- ArcMap / ArcGIS

- Revit / Lumion / SketchUp
