Job Summary: The Estimator & Purchaser plays a key role in the planning and execution of complex and highly detailed residential landscape projects throughout New York City. This role develops project estimates, procures materials, and works closely across our Design, Finance, Operations, and Construction teams.

As Folia’s first dedicated Estimator & Purchaser, you’ll have the opportunity to shape the role, improve processes, and build systems for estimating, procurement, and cross-functional workflows.

This is a hybrid role combining remote office work with regular site visits throughout Manhattan and Brooklyn.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates and change orders for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors
  • Interpret landscape design plans, construction drawings, specifications, and takeoffs using AutoCAD.
  • Participate in site visits to support project scoping, logistics planning, and troubleshooting
  • Collaborate with designers and project managers to define project scope and construction strategy
  • Source and procure plant material, hardscape materials, lighting, irrigation components, and specialty items
  • Manage vendor relationships, pricing negotiations, and subcontractor coordination
  • Track and manage contracts and material orders to ensure timely delivery and project readiness
  • Maintain procurement logs, estimate tracking sheets, and project documentation
  • Assist with subcontractor compliance requirements (insurance certificates, contracts, documentation)
  • Help maintain Folia’s cost library of materials and labor; track material pricing and market fluctuations
  • Identify process efficiencies and tools—including AI—to improve and streamline estimation, procurement, and cross-functional workflows

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Strong understanding of construction materials and estimating processes, including for landscape materials, hardscape construction, irrigation systems, drainage, and lighting
  • Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
  • Experience coordinating with vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel (formulas, cost tracking, data organization), Smartsheet, Adobe, AutoCAD or similar drafting software, estimating software, and project management platforms.
  • Exceptional organizational and time-management
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously, and stay adaptable to shifting priorities
  • Analytical and detail-oriented
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a proactive, fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working on high-end residential landscape or construction projects
  • Familiarity with New York City construction logistics, vendor networks, and permitting processes
  • Familiarity with QuickBooks
  • Proficiency with generative AI, strong AI prompting skills

Education & Experience:

  • Degree or coursework in Landscape Architecture, Architecture, Construction Management, Estimating, or related field
  • 2+ years of professional experience in construction estimating
  • 2–5+ years of professional experience in design-build construction environments with a focus on estimating, project procurement, and materials coordination
  • Minimum of 1+ years high-end residential landscape experience strongly preferred

Employment Type: This is a full-time hourly position with room for growth. A minimum of 30 hours per week is expected, fluctuating up to 40 hours during high-demand periods and as the role develops. Successful candidate can expect to start on or around September 1, 2026, or as soon as possible. Compensation is commensurate with experience.

Pay Range: $32-$38 per hour

Work Location: Hybrid. Full-time remote office work, with site visits throughout New York City. Candidate must be located in the greater NYC metropolitan area.
