Department of State is recruiting! Exciting opportunity to join our team:
Coastal Resources Specialist 1, Grade 18
Starting Salary: $60,069
Our people help to protect and restore the State’s natural and coastal resources, water quality, and the working waterfronts while protecting its natural resources for future generations. We ensure activities proposed in our coastal area are consistent with the New York State Coastal Management Program, and provide technical assistance to other agencies, local governments, and partners with respect to waterfront revitalization, consistency review, watershed planning, and coastal resiliency.
While the job title may sound technical, the day-to-day duties and activities include an over-arching human and community-based element that makes the job both a science and an art. Coastal Resources Specialists have worked with the city to Rochester to develop their Local Waterfront Revitalization Program that led to the ROC the Riverway initiative, helped develop plans to rebuild communities after Superstorm Sandy and Tropical Storms Irene and Lee and evaluated how offshore wind projects interplay with state coastal policy. All this and more to protect the State’s natural and human resources and interests while addressing climate change. Climate change and equity are priority issues for the State, and the OPDCI stands at the forefront of the smart growth movement. We are also developing and launching new programs and grants to help communities develop smart, sustainable, and equitable comprehensive plans.
