Join ASLA-NY, the Olana Partnership, and NBW Landscape Architects for an in-depth afternoon at Olana State Historic Site, exploring the landscape, architecture, and ongoing stewardship of one of America’s most significant cultural landscapes.
For over fifteen years, NBW has had the privilege of contributing to the preservation and enhancement of Olana – the 250-acre masterpiece that was the home, studio, and designed landscape of Frederic Edwin Church, a leading figure of the Hudson River School of painting.
Join Nelson Byrd Woltz Landscape Architects for a presentation at the new, ARO-designed Frederic Church Center for Art and Landscape, at the heart of a newly designed landscape by NBW.
This latest implemented project harmoniously reinvigorates the historical connections between the residence, its landscape, and the broader Hudson Valley context, while welcoming visitors to the full vision created by Church.
The NBW team will present the full arc of the project, from the creation of a Strategic Landscape Design Plan to the subsequent implementation and rehabilitation projects.
Following the presentation, NBW will lead site tours featuring the rehabilitation efforts to restore Church’s vision and accommodate Olana’s programmatic and operational needs.
Presentation by NBW Landscape Architects at 2 PM at the Frederic Church Center for Art and Landscape is open to all.
For ASLA Members, an add-on package of a site tour with the NBW team from 2:45 – 4:15 PM is available, followed by an open studio reception (see below).

Driving: Parking is available at the Frederic Church Center for Art and Landscape.
Train: ASLA-NY can provide transportation to Olana from the Hudson Amtrak Station, with a 1:19 PM arrival, and to the Open Studio in downtown Hudson, which is a short walk from the train station. Please select arriving by train under ticket purchase.
