QRP has been reshaping parks, plazas, campuses, and cultural facilities for close to fifty years. The firm is best known for its New York City projects such as the masterplan for Hudson River Park and the restoration of several Olmsted parks, as well as for its nationwide collaborations with artists Alice Aycock, Barbara Kruger, Maya Lin, George Trakas, and others. With the retirement of founding partners Nicholas Quennell and Peter Rothschild, the current leadership continues to solidify QRP’s reputation for thinking imaginatively about the design process while remaining grounded in the reality of what can be built in the public realm. Notable recent projects include a mile-long park at Far Rockaway; the landscape elements of the recently reinvented Astor Place/Cooper Square; and the restoration and redesign of the Battery. The firm demonstrates its commitment to social equity through active participation in Mayor de Blasio’s Community Parks Initiative, designing improvements to parks in the city’s most underserved neighborhoods.
