Lightscapes: ASLA After Dark — an evening tour of Little Island, featuring the lighting design of Fisher Marantz Stone (FMS), the studio behind the site’s award-winning illumination

A unique partnership between the Diller-von Furstenberg Family Foundation and Hudson River Park Trust, Little Island was born from the opportunity to envision a solution for the repair and renovation of Pier 54 and reimagine an entirely new type of public space for New York City. Spend an hour with lighting designers Enrique Garcia-Carrera and Carla Ross Allen as they lead you on an early evening tour to discuss the lighting vision for this unique space.

Begin: under Little Island’s Cunard Arch

End: happy hour across the street at the Brass Monkey

Enrique Garcia-Carrera, IALD IES NOMA LEED AP BD+C

Associate Principal Enrique Garcia-Carrera studied exhibition and stage design in Mexico; where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design. During his industrial design studies, he developed two projects that included lighting components that piqued his interest in lighting. After moving to New York City, Enrique subsequently earned an MFA in Architectural Lighting Design from Parsons School of Design.

With over 35 years as a lighting designer, Enrique brings extensive experience and lessons learned to each project – “what works and what has not; and the knowledge that something new and exciting will be created based on our experience and creativity.”

Carla Ross Allen, IALD IES LEED AP ID+C Business Development

Carla Ross Allen’s formal training in product design, with an MFA in 3-D Design from Cranbrook Academy of Art, explored the merger of technology and objects. While this influenced the many products she created, the methodology and spatial thinking of product development serendipitously aligned with the practice of lighting design.

Since joining FMS in 2003, Carla’s artistic and environmental sensibilities have found expression in her lighting design collaborations on museums, academic buildings, bespoke residences, and landscape projects, as well as FMS’s product development team. Carla’s critical eye and intuitive visual design sensitivity have been an asset in her career at FMS. She strategizes and leads outward-facing marketing and business development efforts, ranging from industry talks to curated events. Carla manages FMS’s marketing team, focusing on brand identity.
