The City College ASLA-NY Student Chapter is hosting its 6th annual Rising Urbanist conference on Friday, April 21st, starting at 9:45am. In the past, these conferences have explored topics including green infrastructure, coastal resilience, urban forestry, uncovering the hidden aspects of the urban landscape, and urban citizenship. This year’s theme will be Feeding the Future. This year’s conference will be our first in-person conference since to Covid-19 pandemic, and we are excited to welcome you all back to Spitzer.
The Rising Urbanist Conference is a multi-disciplinary event organized around strategic and imaginative methods for collaborative problem solving. We are interested in highlighting better approaches to our city’s most pressing environmental problems and injustices by facilitating a series of conversations that are challenging yet productive. We imagine that the relationship between cities and the landscapes that support and nourish urban populations will continue to be problematized, especially as the climate crisis motivates us to devise methods of sustainable agriculture. This conference is a groundbreaking forum for the next generation of urbanist thinkers to organize around long-term planning strategies rather than disciplinary hierarchies.
In the 2023 installment of Rising Urbanists, we will open conversation with experts to understand urban food systems in New York City and beyond. We will emphasize the multiple ways in which we can engage with urban food systems through panel discussions, technology demonstrations, and opportunities to sample dishes from a variety of local restaurants.
