A garden cocktail party and fundraiser to benefit BGI and support our work across the 26-mile Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway.

Please join BGI for an outdoor cocktail party benefiting Brooklyn Greenway Initiative and their mission to create a greener, stronger, and healthier Brooklyn.

BGI is looking forward to coming together in-person with the community for the first time in almost 2 years to commemorate and celebrate the Greenway’s role as vibrant outdoor space for transportation, recreation, and community during this challenging period.

The first ever Greenway Garden Party will take place at the Naval Cemetery Landscape, BGI’s memorial meadow and sacred grove located at the Brooklyn Navy Yard.

BGI is thrilled to honor NYC DOT Commissioner Hank Gutman for his leadership to advance greenways citywide and shape the city’s future transportation and open space landscape. During his tenure, he has established new bike lanes on the Brooklyn and Queensborough Bridges, added thousands of public bike racks on city streets, expanded the Open Streets program, and re-invigorated DOT’s long-standing commitment to the Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway.

Commissioner Gutman was appointed in January 2021. He is a Retired Partner of Simpson Thacher & Bartlett, LLP, where he headed the Intellectual Property Practice Group from 1996 until his recent retirement. A 45-year Brooklyn resident, Hank serves as Chair of the Brooklyn Navy Yard, the City’s largest industrial park, providing thousands of quality manufacturing jobs for those who need them most, where he was instrumental in the creation of the Naval Cemetery Landscape in 2016.

There will be live music, drinks, and light hors d’oeuvres served on the elevated meandering boardwalk where you can mingle and reconnect amidst a colorful palette of late summer blooms.

The dress code is Brooklyn Outdoors: wear what makes you feel special.
