Please join the New York chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects on Thursday, June 8th at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center for an educational hands-on tour of the urban farm, orchard, and outdoor event space on the rooftop of this iconic building. Covering more than an acre of rooftop on the newly expanded convention center, the active farm operation managed by Brooklyn Grange produces a variety of crops which are used in the building’s kitchens.
The event will include a site tour, which will provide ASLA CEUs (1.5 units) for learning opportunities in small group sessions. The green roof media, building materials, rooftop design and farm operations will be highlighted during 20-minute sessions led by representatives from various project participants. A reception will be held after the tour for attendees. Refreshments and hors d’oeuvres will be provided.
Event Program:
A staffed sign-in table will be in Room 413, with a map and other handouts. Maps will be printed on paper of four different colors to sort participants into smaller groups for the 20-minute rotating sessions. The targeted attendance for the event is 80 participants. Welcoming remarks will be made by Yashi Dadhich, Javits Center Director of Energy & Sustainability.
Tour Stops:
