PLEASE NOTE: THIS EVENT HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED FROM JUNE 7TH TO JUNE 21ST
In 2017, the Gowanus Canal Conservancy partnered with SCAPE Landscape Architecture to launch a vision for New York City’s next great park: The Gowanus Lowlands. This vision builds on years of close collaboration with the community, landowners, elected officials and agency representatives to advocate for cohesive planning for open space and resiliency in a changing neighborhood.
On Thursday June 21, join both GCC and SCAPE for a happy hour and site tour that uncovers elements of the Lowlands Master Plan in the midst of neighborhood change, including the federally mandated cleanup under the Canal’s Superfund status, related cleanups at the state and city levels, and probable land use changes that will cue both private development and city investment in the public realm. Focusing on the GCC Salt Lot, participants will be led through the design process for a proposed network of parks, public spaces, and green infrastructure centered on the Gowanus Canal and connected to the surrounding watershed.
