The East Midtown Greenway is a waterfront project that visions to “close the loop” of the Manhattan Waterfront Greenway, creating a contiguous greenway and open space network around Manhattan. The project fills a major gap between East 53rd and East 61st Streets along the East River through the use of innovative infrastructural systems that improve access while also anticipating sea level rise. In addition to a greenway, the project features overlooks, seating nooks, lush planting, and environmental integrated art from Stacy Levy

The tour will begin at Andrew Haswell Green Park (Phase 2B) which is still an active construction site, so PPE (work boots, hard hats, vests, safety glasses, and gloves) will be required. This tour of the greenway will be at the “punch list” phase of the project, allowing for a unique viewing lens.
- Directions: FROM THE SUBWAY: Take the 4/5/6/N/W/R to the 59TH Street/ Lexington Avenue station. From the Subway station, walk east on 60th Street. Continue walking east until you reach York Avenue. At this point, you will see Sycamore Park to the left and a ramp over the FDR Highway straight ahead. Continue to walk up the ramp until you see a large red sculpture on the right. Take a right into the greenspace under the red sculpture. This will be the meeting point for the tour.
- This is still an active construction site, so everyone will need to bring work boots, hard hats, gloves, safety vests (non PFD) and safety glasses (not sunglasses).
