ASLANY- BIPOC Dialogue with Taewook Cha & Anne Chen

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee at ASLA-NY presents a Quarterly Webinar Series with the focus on the work, career, service and leadership of prominent and lesser known BIPOC professionals.  Set in a dialogue format between an established and an emerging BIPOC professionals, the webinar aims to highlight and celebrate the diversity of our landscape architecture community and advocate the talents and contributions of the BIPOC members.

In March, our Spring BIPOC Webinar Series features:

Taewook Cha, FASLA | Principal, Supermass Studio

Taewook Cha is a registered landscape architect and founding principal of Supermass Studio, a landscape architecture practice based in New York City since 2011. With nearly 30 years of experience in the United States and internationally, Taewook has dedicated most of his career to the innovation and advancement of public spaces in complex urban environments. His primary interest lies at the intersection of landscape, urbanism, ecology, and community, guided by three core principles of “unorthodox creativity,” “opportunistic diversity”, and “socio-environmental responsibility.” His work at Supermass Studio includes Mulberry Commons Park in Newark, NJ; Wisconsin Riverfront Park in Wisconsin Rapids, WI; the ETEC Innovation Center at the University at Albany, NY; Concourse Parks at LaGuardia Airport’s New Terminal B in New York, NY; and Holdrooms and Welcome Center at Newark Liberty International Airport’s Terminal A in Newark, NJ. 

Taewook earned Master of Landscape Architecture degrees from Harvard University and Seoul National University, and a Bachelor of Agriculture in Horticulture from Korea University in South Korea. He serves as an executive board member of ASLA-NY and co-chairs its DEI Committee.

Anne Chen, ASLA, AIA | Architect, Gensler; 2023 ASLA-NY DEI Grant Winner 

Anne Chen works across disciplines of architecture, landscape architecture, and urban design. Focusing primarily on education and cultural projects, she devotes her time, energy, and talent to serve communities through advancing the design of public spaces and volunteering at local nonprofit organizations. Anne has a Master of Landscape Architecture from the Harvard Graduate School of Design. She received her Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the University of Virginia, where she also minored in Global Sustainability. As a practicing architect and landscape architect, Anne seeks opportunity to address social and environmental issues through design on every project.
