AIA New York and the Committee on Design for Risk & Reconstruction (DfRR) are pleased to introduce Laurian Farrell, the Deputy Commissioner for the Bureau of Coastal Resilience, a new office within New York City’s Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) responsible for leading those efforts for our 520 miles of shoreline.  She will be in conversation with Franco Montalto, a civil engineer who is President of eDesign Dynamics, Professor of Engineering at Drexel University, and a member of the NYC Panel on Climate Change (NPCC).

As a water resources engineer and landscape architect, Ms. Farrell has developed a deep understanding of the challenges facing ultra-urban coastal cities worldwide. Dr. Montalto’s work focuses on the development of ecologically, economically, and socially sensible solutions to urban environmental problems with a focus on climate change.

The evening promises to be a lively discussion on these important issues and is designed to allow the audience to participate in the conversation during the event and post-event networking.
