What does equity mean? How do you define equity? How do you realize equity in the urban realm?
We recognize that equity is a complex issue and can have multiple definitions. We want to use the conference to explore those issues and complexities at greater depth, especially as they relate to spatial equity, design process, and outcomes.
While our three professions share an ethos that promotes sustainability, resilience, and public access, this conference will bring together architects, landscape architects, and planners to explore new paradigms for designing in a more equitable way. The panels will specifically examine how our practices are evolving to center equity and justice in our public realm, community engagement, housing and zoning, and extreme heat adaptation.
Scheduled over one full day, FUTURE STATE will reflect upon new and necessary expectations placed upon our built and natural environment, redefine how our professions can best respond to these new expectations, and work to redefine the city as one that works for all. We will engage with practitioners, academics, and government officials for a dynamic series of discussions that chart a path forward for this City.
