PARK(ing) Day is an annual worldwide event where artists, designers and citizens transform metered parking spots into temporary public parks.
Join us to raise awareness of Landscape Architecture and support the CCNY Landscape Architecture Program!
Location: 133rd Street just off Broadway in front of the New Design Middle School
ASLA-NY and the CCNY MLA program invite you to participate in Park(ing) Day an annual international open-source event that transforms city parking spots into alternative public spaces.
The event, which originated in San Francisco in 2005, occurs this year on September 19th.
In an effort to increase public awareness of Landscape Architecture, ASLA-NY is compiling a team of current CCNY MLA students, CCNY alumni, and practicing LAs to represent to the world what Landscape Architects do, which is design productive landscapes involving complex systems. ASLA-NY will publicize the event via television and various forums.
Check out the Park(ing) Day event information and past parking spot solutions here: www.parkingday.org
The ASLA-NY and CCNY MLA approach to the event is to design a series of three spaces each illustrating issues that Landscape Architects address in their work. For example, there will be a space dedicated to solar energy and the heat island effect, another to water systems, and another to ecology and habitat. These “spaces” can perhaps be used in future education programs.
