About the Project:
Developed over a decade in partnership with local government, designers, engineers, landowners, residents, and artisans, Town Branch Commons is a transformative multi-modal trail and linear park weaving through the city of Lexington—a ribbon of native Bluegrass landscape extending 2.5 miles along the path of the buried Town Branch Creek through downtown.
Inspired by the karst geology of central Kentucky, the Commons use native limestone features as key elements of the design throughout, from interactive water features to signature paving and traditional dry-laid fences created with local stonemasons. At a broader scale, the Commons represent a large-scale investment in resilient green infrastructure, involving a “roadway diet” that maintains transportation needs while carving out space for protected bike and pedestrian lanes—and lush, native bioswales buffering the greenway.
