The East Midtown Greenway (EMG) is located on the East Side of Manhattan, from 53rd to 61st streets, where the FDR Drive alignment precludes pedestrian access to the waterfront. Elevated over the East River, EMG provides an easily accessible transportation alternative for pedestrians and bicyclists to have a truly unique waterfront experience. EMG is a new in-water structure that supports a new public park space spanning approximately seven city blocks to create connected and safe spaces for pedestrians and bicyclists. Additionally, a 115-foot pedestrian bridge spanning over the FDR Drive was installed upland at East 54th Street to provide a safe and accessible connection from the surrounding neighborhood to the waterfront structure.

EMG is part of a larger East River Waterfront esplanade vision that will stretch for 22 blocks and completes a key gap in the Manhattan Waterfront Greenway, which, when completed, will be a continuous 32.5-mile loop around Manhattan.
