The Alumni courtyard provides a center for healing and rest in the heart of NYU Langone Medical Center’s campus. The elegant design integrates a complex on-structure landscape with post-Hurricane Sandy resiliency measures. The courtyard is lifted on the south edge to meet new flood level elevations and uses monumental sit steps to mediate the grade change. The result is an open plaza with expansive planting areas and various places to sit amidst lush greenery. Intimate and social spaces provide a restorative natural environment that enhances the quality of life and care for the LMC community and its visitors.
