Advocacy and Policy
- Draft position statements and platforms for issues of importance to Landscape Architects
- Local/State/National Advocacy
- Liaison with NYSCLA
- Keep members informed of important advocacy issues including via social media
- Send out requests for submissions
- Procure another chapter to judge submissions
- Collect submissions and deliver to jury
- Organize awards event, create awards certificates, slides for event
- Work with Communications Committee to ensure award winners are posted on our website after the Awards Reception
- Communicate important news and issues between our chapter and all members
- Coordinate with PR committee
- Compose and distribute bi-weekly newsletter with event listings and news
- Post events, photos and news on social media frequently
- Send emailers for special occasions
- Create printed documents, brochures, flyers and posters for events as needed; assist with presentation materials
- Produce all graphic needs for other committees / events to ensure graphic consistency for our branding
- Produce podcasts, videos and member spotlight on website (Podcast is a sub-committee)
Experience with Constant Contact (email system) and basic web maintenance/ coding is helpful. Understanding of social media is very helpful.
Budget and Finance
- Keep books, collect checks, pay bills
- Provide monthly financial statements to the board
- Oversee the general financial well being of the organization, including investment accounts
- ACES Mentoring Program
- Student Awards Program
- Coordination with CCNY
- Outreach to students (elementary and college) for landscape architecture awareness activities
Fellows Nominating (Typically selected by President)
- Find and support nominations for fellows
- Determine nominating methodology to select fellows
- Coordinate and write portions of the nomination submission
- Contact lapsed members via phone/email to encourage renewal
- Outreach to prospective members (students/other) on benefits of membership
NYSCLA is the New York State Council of Landscape Architects. It was established to represent all licensed Landscape Architects in New York State at the request of the New York State Board for Landscape Architecture. It is a group of volunteers who are licensed landscape architects from around the state, appointed by New York, and New York Upstate, Chapters of the American Society of Landscape Architects, established to respond to issues of licensure and matters related to state regulations affecting the profession of Landscape Architecture.NYSCLA is staffed by an Executive Director who reviews pending bills in the State Legislature and acts as the liaison with the professional associations of Architects, Engineers and land surveyors in New York State. - Create a calendar of educational programs for the year (to include but not limited to: Landscape Architecture month, 4 CEUs and a Beer programs, tours, annual conference, Archtober tours)
- Execute all logistics surrounding each of these programs including choosing topics, procuring speakers, venues, CEU learning objectives, writing up program information for communications and sponsor outreach, setting up ticket prices, refreshments.
- Host Networking/Social events.
- Host Emerging Professionals events (Open Studios, happy hours)
The ASLA Chapter Public Relations Chair will take a proactive approach to media outreach. He/she will help their chapter establish an effective public relations program to increase public awareness of the landscape architecture profession. The PR chair will also get members to talk with members of the local media.
The PR chair will actively reach out to members of the media included on their State Media list to build and foster existing relationships.
- Writing and/or sending out Press Releases for major events and news items
- Prepare Media Advisories
- Produce / send Opinion-Editorial (Op-Ed) Pieces
- Alerting and/or inviting local press to chapter events including award galas, National Landscape Architecture Month events, and induction of new officers.
- Seeking out relevant member projects and events that could garner local media coverage and actively promote these events.
- Encouraging members to become involved in their local communities, including utilizing local ACE Mentor program opportunities.
- Actively working with the national Public Awareness representatives – (Jennifer Nitzky is national rep for our chapter) and the PA Coordinator at ASLA National for national PA campaigns. Our chapter should strive to host at least one Public Awareness event a year.
- Work directly with Kathy and the Programs Committee to develop an appropriate strategy
- Create sponsorship package for 2015, including prices and benefits and possible events to sponsor
- Outreach to sponsors and potential sponsors for event funding and general chapter support
- Outreach to chapter members to approach vendors/suppliers for sponsorship
- Help organize the sponsor benefits at the President’s Dinner
