ASLA New York Announces Retirement of Executive Director, Diane Sferrazza Katz
Today, ASLA New York congratulates our Executive Director, Diane Sferrazza Katz, on her approaching retirement after 8 years of dedicated service to our chapter. Diane will step down from her position on March 31, 2025.
During her tenure, Diane has been the Chapter’s sustained leader, representing our organization and advocating for our mission, fostering support for our initiatives, building relationships with our Chapter members and sponsors, and managing the many offerings our Chapter produces each year. To mention a few of her many accomplishments, Diane kept us afloat through COVID-19, grew our bottom line thereafter with astute financial strategies, and strengthened our relationships with the Chapter’s supporters. She has significantly increased the organization’s reach by making new connections with many of NYC’s allied organizations. Over the past 8 years, she has traveled from Westchester to attend almost every event the Chapter has hosted, and she has always been the constant, reliable leader for everyone to turn to. This past year, she worked closely with me to launch the ASLA-NY Foundation, our newly established 501c3, which will catalyze ASLA New York’s next growth stage. We had a successful inaugural fundraising campaign at the 2024 President’s Dinner.
Aside from her professional contributions, Diane has truly been a beloved friend and positive spirit for all who have had the pleasure of serving with her on the Board, the Chapter members, sponsors, and anyone who meets her. We will miss her dearly but are very happy for her as she begins her next adventure.
In the true spirit of always putting the Chapter first, Diane offered a very generous timeline and worked with us to ensure the best replacement and transition. We have concluded our months-long search process and are pleased to announce that David Russo, ASLA will become the chapter’s next Executive Director and the first Landscape Architect to hold this position. The Board believes this exciting new direction aligns with our mission, and David is passionate and honored for this opportunity.
